When it comes to employment law compliance, there's no document more important than your employee handbook. Handbooks necessarily address a legion of legal requirements, and they can make or break an employer's ability to pass due diligence or government audits, defend against legal claims made or threatened by employees, and/or make necessary personnel decisions without being under a dark cloud of legal risk.

In this webinar, instead of using slides, we'll review excerpts of a model employee handbook to discuss key compliance requirements, updates, and judgment calls that employers need to address when setting up or updating an employee handbook to meet current legal requirements. The presentation will include key legal updates to make to handbooks under California state law, and discuss why handbooks need to account for differing requirements in other state/city/county jurisdictions where employees work (either remotely or in an employer office).

This is an edited recording of the webinar presented by Ray Hixson on April 23, 2024 to the Santa Clara (California) Employer Advisory Council. Please note that the webinar does not address changes in the law since the original program date. While the purpose of this program is to provide a general review of key legal issues regarding employee handbooks (i.e., not a comprehensive legal update), we offer the following two on-demand webinars that focus on new legal updates for 2025: 2025 California Employment Law Update (2 hours); and, Changes California Employers Need to Make by January 1, 2025 (1 hour).

Please also note that our webinars provide only general information about the law, and they do not constitute legal advice. Companies or individuals seeking legal advice should retain counsel.

Please note that HR and attorney continuing education credits are not available for watching our recorded programs.
