Watch this in-depth 2-hour webinar to catch up on a wide range of important new legal developments for California employers. We cover topics including:

  • Update on COVID-19 Related Law: Hot off the presses court rulings on vaccination requirements, how to handle religious and medical exemption requests to vaccination requirements, employee leave rights and the latest safety standards (including the new Federal OSHA Emergency Temporary Standard for employers with 100+ employees). This recording includes discussion added to the original webinar about the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling on January 13, 2022, that stayed enforcement of Federal OSHA Emergency Temporary Standard.
  • Review of Remote Work Legal Considerations: Key ingredients of a remote work policy; what expenses must an employer reimburse for remote work (e.g., internet, cellular service, supplies); remote work impact on what counts as “time worked” and reimbursable mileage; home office safety considerations.
  • Recent Employee Jury Verdicts: Including a $137 million jury award against Tesla in favor of a staffing agency worker for alleged racial harassment, and alleged failure to take appropriate corrective actions; $2.4 million verdict against AstraZeneca for alleged retaliation of an employee who had expressed compliance-related concerns, and was terminated shortly after returning from a medical leave.
  • Employee Handbook Updates: Updating leave policies to reflect recent amendments to the California Family Rights Act (“CFRA”); some select, key updates and adjustments for employees working in non-California locations based upon state/local laws.
  • Employee Arbitration Agreements: Recent court ruling that reinstates (at least temporarily) California Assembly Bill 51’s ban on mandatory arbitration agreements; revision to the law stating that an employer waives arbitration by failing to pay arbitration fees within 30 days.
  • Severance/Release & Non-Disparagement Agreements: Agreement form updates required by California’s new “Silenced No More Act,” including a mandatory disclaimer to be added to non-disparagement clauses, and other prohibitions against agreements that would purport to ban current or former employees from disclosing information related to alleged harassment or discrimination.
  • Wage & Hour Law Update: New heightened pay requirements for exempt computer software professionals and “white collar” exempt employees; new minimum wage requirements for non-exempt employees. Also, a California court ruling that found time card rounding practices non-compliant.

Registrants will be able to download several handouts (by clicking the gotwebinar handouts icon), including a handout of the slides, and several model forms related to the program topics.
