We’ve seen a wide range of important developments in California and federal wage and hour laws recently! Attend this wage and hour law update seminar to learn what’s new, and hear our recommendations on hot compliance topics, including:
- California’s New Fair Pay Act: including the strict prohibition on paying opposite sex employees less for substantially similar work, heightened burdens on employers to justify pay disparities, and expanded employee rights to discuss other employees’ wages.
- Changes to Sick Leave Laws: Including the July 13, 2015 amendments to California’s paid sick leave law, heightened requirements under certain city ordinance requirements, and new requirements for federal contractors.
- “Contractor” Status: Hot new rulings in the “on-demand” economy, contractor agreements, and best practices to reduce risk.
- “Exempt” Status: Anticipated federal law expansion of overtime law coverage, California law differences, common misclassification mistakes, how to audit exempt status, and best practice recommendations.
- Minimum Pay Standards: Review of current minimum wage standards under California state laws and city ordinances, salary requirements for exempt status, and special minimum pay for exempt software professionals; minimum wage for employees of federal contractors.
- Commission Plans: It’s the time of year when most employers need to get to work on updating their commission plans for the next fiscal year. We’ll discuss the requirements of California’s law requiring written commission contracts, and commission pay legal landmines under California employment law.
Time will also be reserved for attendee questions during the program. All attendees will receive detailed PowerPoint slides, an extensive white paper, and additional written materials.
Your presenters will be attorneys Ray Hixson, Brian Nagatani, and Mary Wang, who are partners of the law firm Hixson Nagatani LLP.
