When supervising hourly (non-exempt) employees, supervisors must comply with a surprisingly complex array of legal requirements. The purpose of this webinar is to provide your supervisors with the basic legal education they need to comply with key federal and California laws applicable to non-exempt employees.

This presentation will review:

  • Essential differences between non-exempt versus exempt employee classifications.
  • The surprisingly broad definition of what counts as "time worked," and special challenges with remote work.
  • Legal requirements for work time records (a.k.a. "time cards").
  • Daily and weekly overtime pay requirements.
  • Alternative workweek requirements.
  • "Comp time" and its hidden legal risks.
  • Special pay requirements that apply when requiring an employee to report to work for less than half their usual or scheduled work hours, report back to work for a second time, or work a split shift.
  • Meal and rest break requirements (including legal requirements for waiving breaks).
  • Legal penalties for non-compliance, and personal liability risks for supervisors.

Attendees will receive detailed PowerPoint slides, additional handouts, and a training certificate (self-certification).
