Although California law only requires employers to provide training to supervisors on the subject of preventing sexual harassment and abusive conduct, employers should also ensure that their supervisors know basic employment law requirements and best practices with respect to a variety of other important topics. As business and hiring ramp back up from the pandemic recession, we see a particular need at this time for supervisors to be well-informed on legal issues related to hiring, discrimination, and the pandemic.

More specifically, this interactive 90-minute webinar will train supervisors with respect to:

  • Discrimination: California and federal discrimination law basics.

  • Legal Issues in Hiring: Do’s and don’ts for hiring interviews (including “smoking gun” questions to avoid); worker classifications (e.g., employee vs. contractor, overtime exempt vs non-exempt, benefits eligibility); introductory periods for new hires; supervising staffing agency employees; criminal background checks (including California’s “ban the box” law); special issues when hiring an employee who works for a competitor (e.g., non-competes, non-solicitation, and confidentiality agreements).

  • Pandemic-Related Employment Laws: High-level overview of California laws related to worker safety, and pandemic-related employee leave laws.

Registrants will be able to download several handouts (by clicking the gotwebinar handouts icon), including a handout of the slides, and several model forms related to the program topics.   This is an edited recording of a webinar presented by Ray Hixson on June 29, 2021.
